Twitter and Facebook block critical text on Joe Biden: Donald Trump complains

Twitter is the favorite medium of the President of the United States. Largely unfiltered, you can broadcast messages to your nearly 90 million followers there. Time and again, however, Donald Trump clashes with those responsible for the platform, for example when Twitter gives a warning to one of his particularly sensitive messages. Now there is another argument.

Trump has harshly criticized Twitter and Facebook for blocking access to a critical article about opposition presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son. Internet company stocks are “so terrible,” Trump wrote Wednesday, especially on Twitter.

The president added that the New York Post report on the Bidens was “just the beginning for them.” There is “nothing worse than a corrupt politician.”

The “New York Post” claims in the article to have gained access to a computer that was used by Hunter Biden. The conservative tabloid allegedly found information on the device that former Vice President Biden was involved in his son’s business in Ukraine. Trump’s election challenger has repeatedly denied it.

According to the “New York Post”, the alleged computer information should prove that Hunter Biden introduced a Ukrainian businessman to his father when he was vice president and in this capacity he was responsible for US policy on Ukraine. Bidens’ campaign team rejected the report, denying that former President Barack Obama’s deputy had met the Ukrainian businessman.

There are urgent questions about the “origin of the materials”

Facebook and Twitter blocked links to the article. The reason they gave was that there were doubts about the veracity of the report. “This is part of our standard procedure against spreading false information,” said Facebook spokesman Andy Stone. Twitter justified its approach with questions about the “origin of materials” of the article.

Hunter Biden’s previous business activities in Ukraine had been the starting point of the Ukraine affair, which led to an impeachment trial against Trump. Biden’s son had been on the board of directors of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma when his father was vice president. In June 2019, Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj to investigate corruption against the Bidens.

The White House spokeswoman apparently also sanctioned by Twitter

The “New York Post” published its current critical article on the Bidens almost three weeks before the presidential election. In polls, Trump lags behind Biden. This applies to both national and multi-state polls that are considered critical to the election.

Trump’s campaign team also accused Twitter of blocking the private account of White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany. The campaign team posted a screenshot Wednesday night (local time) on Twitter that was only intended to show McEnany’s notification from the short message service that his access to his account had been blocked. To justify the blockade, reference was made to a tweet by McEnany in which he referred to the Biden report.

On his official government account, McEnany wrote to Twitter and Facebook: “Censorship must be condemned!” McEnany’s personal profile was still available Wednesday night. Apparently the ban prevented her from posting something herself.
