“President Biden is very proud of his son, who has overcome difficult challenges, including serious personal attacks, in recent months, only to come out of them even stronger,” said an opening statement.
Hunter Biden stated, “I take this matter very seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I have handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the help of professional tax advisers.”
During the election campaign, Republicans harshly attacked Hunter Biden, accusing him of corruption and illegal business abroad. Among other things, Biden’s position on the supervisory board of Ukrainian Burisma Holdings between 2014 and 2019. The gas company has been associated with money laundering and tax evasion in the past.
Outgoing President Donald Trump accused Joe Biden in the election campaign of stopping corruption investigations against Burisma and his son through his influence as then-Vice President of the United States. It did not provide any evidence to back up these allegations.
