Election campaign in the United States: Trump, the angry convalescent

reOnald Trump insulted Senator Kamala Harris on television as a “monster,” once again tweeting all-caps diatribes and insulting his own cabinet. The president also spurred speculation about his mood on Friday and worked on his return to the election campaign after his coronavirus infection. Harris, the vice presidential nominee, is utterly unsympathetic and a “monster” that his deputy Mike Pence “destroyed” in the televised debate, Trump said by phone on “Fox Business.” Attorney General William Barr, who did not indict Biden and others, disappointed him, as did Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and FBI Chief Christopher Wray, the president complained.

Trump is increasingly concerned about his re-election, and thus reacting particularly aggressively, commentators speculate. Others believe they can draw conclusions about his behavior from Trump’s drug use after his Covid illness. On the public radio station NPR, for example, doctors were asked about the stimulant effects of steroids. Steroids, which are also often prescribed in the United States for severe colds, are cited as an explanation for the behavior of a man who has always cursed and insulted.
