Donald Trump threatens lawsuits and problems with his company

However, court records suggest that Vance has expanded his criminal investigation to include possible bank, tax and insurance fraud. Vance continues to fight for access to Trump’s closely guarded tax records.

In Washington, meanwhile, there has long been speculation about whether Trump could forgive himself. This case has never happened in the history of the United States, so there are no clear court rulings in this regard.

Legal problems on many fronts

In theory, Trump could forgive himself as a precautionary measure to guard against possible criminal prosecution. To see if the pardon would last, a federal prosecutor would have to indict Trump and the then-former president of the United States would have to refer to his pardon. Then a judge would decide the matter.

In any case, Trump could forgive his family, lawyers and other colleagues. However, the pardon only applies to crimes against federal laws in which the FBI acts and not the classic police. The Vance investigation is ongoing at the New York State level and would not be affected.

But legal problems threaten elsewhere as well.
