Around seven years after the launch of the small i3 car, BMW will launch more electric cars starting in 2020. It starts with a battery-powered version of the compact X3 SUV. The Concept iX3 took a first look at the model in mid-2018, since then only camouflaged examples have been shown. The current status of the new Stromer should now be visible on the network.
A user of the online service. Instagram released in late April two images showing the BMW iX3 for the first time without camouflage. It was not revealed where the following photos came from:
If the car in the pictures is actually the final version of the iX3 for the series, BMW has only carefully tailored the design of the studio. What is striking is the front, where the typical brand kidney has a continuous chrome network in the middle – the first design had a large opening here. With the kidney closed, the electric version seems less revolutionary compared to conventional versions of the iX3.
iX3 presents new electric drive
Until now, BMW has not revealed exactly when the iX3 should be delivered in this country. The price is also unclear yet. The latest information was released on technology late last year. Therefore, the new electric SUV is a pioneer of fifth-generation BMW “eDrive” technology, which from 2021 will also be used in the i4 sedan and iNEXT technology platform.
BMW has redesigned the drive unit and high-voltage battery for its future electrical engineering. In addition to the brand’s typical driving experience, the iX3 will offer “outstanding efficiency” and a “new balance” between weight and range. Compared to the competition, the Bavarians also promise “unique low-cost electricity consumption” of less than 20 kWh / 100 km.
According to BMW, the iX3’s electric motor will generate a maximum power of more than 200 kW (270 hp). The battery for the electric drive is housed on the floor of the vehicle, so there is no loss of space for either the passengers or the boot. The range is promised to exceed 440 kilometers in accordance with the WLTP standard.
