06:02 am | Improvement of the housing situation of Crostwitz and Lohsa

The situation has improved slightly at the Caritas nursing home in Crostwitz near Bautzen, which is badly affected by the corona virus. This was confirmed by Head of Nursing Sylwana Bjarsch at the request of MDR Saxony. However, efforts have been made to expand the Bundeswehr’s support forces.

The situation is similar at the Awo residence in Lohsa, near Hoyerswerda. Starting next Monday they want to get back to dealing with their own nursing staff. The four Bundeswehr aides will leave Lohsa again tomorrow.

05:34 am | Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe does negative business

The Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) posted significant losses due to the crown. By the end of the year, the revenue shortfall will likely amount to around € 30 million, the transport association announced. According to initial estimates, the number of passengers fell by around 20 percent. However, the VVO wants to maintain its offering and continue to invest. For next year, 140 million euros are foreseen in the budget that has just been approved, of which 110 million will go to rail transport and 4 million to bus transport. 1.6 million euros are available for the expansion of train stops and stations.

To protect against infection with the coronavirus, the VVO increasingly promotes contactless ticket purchases through the app. Today, buses and trains are disinfected with particular frequency. In addition to the city of Dresden, the VVO area includes the districts of Meißen, Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains and parts of the district of Bautzen. Last year more than 220 million passengers were counted.

05:20 am | Freiberg does not want to increase any special usage fees for distributors and restaurants

Freiberg councilors will vote at their meeting today on exemption from the so-called special user fee for restaurateurs and retailers. Already this year, the municipality had not asked restaurants and merchants to place chairs and tables or billboards in front of their stores. It should stay that way for the next year.

In the end, it is not a high fee, said the mayor of Freiberg, Sven Krüger (not party). The city gave up a five-digit sum. But one wants to set an example in the current situation with the exemption.

05:05 am | No advent of miners at Annaberg-Buchholz

The town of Annaberg-Buchholz canceled the advent of traditional miners on Sunday. As justification, the city council refers to the tightening of the protection measures of the crown. This means that the new figure for the Annaberger Krippenweg cannot be presented either. This should now be offset in La Candelaria on February 2 of next year. The cradle path consists of almost life-size carved wooden figures. They are distributed throughout the city, including in the tower of the Annenkirche and the tourist information.
