At Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg, the LKA searched the Mevlana mosque and two shops, a butcher shop and a shop that functions as a public relations agency, on suspicion of fraud of crown subsidies.

In addition to business addresses, the residential addresses of three suspects (36, 43, 58) were also recorded. They are the applicants for the crown grant. “There are indications that the three defendants did not act independently,” says a police spokesman.

The operation is not about arrests, but about obtaining evidence such as business documents, smartphones, computers and cash, according to a police spokesman.

Among other things, it must be determined what role the 58-year-old plays in the mosque association and what his job is there. Because: “In one case, the subsidy money was transferred to the account of the mosque association,” says the police spokesman. About 150 officers are on duty.

A police spokesman said in the morning that a total of 46,000 euros was disbursed. The total amount of damage is just under 70,000 euros. Police said not all the money was paid.

The Berlin prosecution has already accumulated hundreds of preliminary investigations into alleged fraud in the Corona emergency aid case.
