The crown numbers for the Cloppenburg district have improved slightly. According to the Robert Koch Institute (as of midnight Saturday), there are currently 53.7 new infections per 100,000 residents in the past seven days. On Friday it was 61.5. The limit set by the federal and state governments is 50. In light of the dramatic increase in corona infections, the district has once again tightened the rules of the crown.
Löningen particularly affected
The Löningen area is still particularly affected, as district manager Johann Wimberg (CDU) said at a press conference on Friday. To contain further spread of the coronavirus, the district imposes meeting restrictions for the city of Löningen and the communities of Lastrup, Essen and Lindern.
Meetings are prohibited on the club premises
In the affected municipalities, any meeting in the club’s facilities is prohibited. Restaurants have to close at 10 pm Social contacts should also be significantly reduced. Only a maximum of six people are allowed to meet. If people from just two households come together, there may be more than six people. The district’s general decree is initially valid until October 4. The goal is not to paralyze economic and social life across the district, Wimberg said. Balancing the right to liberty and protection against infection is rarely an easy task. In this area of tension, the district is trying to find a way that serves to protect against infection, but does not put too much pressure on citizens’ freedom and economic life.

How do the measurements work?
The district will continue to monitor the infection process very closely in the coming days, Wimberg said. The virus had already been observed to be spreading in leisure and sport. That’s why team sports were banned across the district earlier in the week. The goal is to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the district, Wimberg said. The Copernicus Gymnasium in Löningen and a branch of the vocational school were also closed. Additionally, students from other schools were quarantined in cohorts. “Now we have to see what effect the measures will have and if we may need to take further action,” the district administrator said.

Displacements? Holidays? Observe the rules in the target area!
The district also warned its residents about potential problems traveling to other regions. “Exceeding this critical mark can result in restrictions on private or business travel to areas outside of the Cloppenburg district,” Wimberg said. “Working out of the county could also be a problem for commuters.” According to Wimberg, whether people in the Cloppenburg district can vacation or stay overnight in other countries or federal states depends on local requirements. For example, Schleswig-Holstein should not accommodate people who come from an area where the seven-day incidence is greater than 50. Citizens should inquire about the regulations applicable in their destination or, if necessary, the tour operator.

30 new corona cases on Friday
According to Wimberg, there were another 30 new corona cases on Friday. There are a total of 145 current infections in the district. “That is very unusual for us,” said the district administrator. Because the Cloppenburg district had weathered the pandemic very well by then. “To date there has not been a single death,” Wimberg said. The number of patients that must be treated in intensive care is also very manageable. According to Wimberg, the fact that there are now more infections has to do with a looser attitude among the population. The use of the mask every day and the rules of distance and hygiene would no longer be taken as seriously as at the beginning of the pandemic. “It is up to society itself how the pandemic will play out,” Wimberg said.
