Following the attempted robbery of a jewelry store in the center of Celle, in which the two alleged perpetrators were killed, police investigations are in full swing. Investigators are now verifying, among other things, whether the owner couple may have acted in self-defense. One of the two alleged robbers died Monday afternoon at the scene, the other man died in a hospital that night, according to police.
One of the alleged thieves was in a wheelchair
Officials now rely on witness evidence. Because the alleged armed perpetrators may have noticed other people before the unsuccessful attack. One of them was sitting in a wheelchair, the police spokeswoman said. The other man pushed him. Investigators are now looking for passersby who have observed, for example, how the duo unloaded a wheelchair from a car. It is also not yet known if the wheelchair was used for camouflage or if it was medically necessary.
The couple who own the jewelry could still be questioned Monday night. Police said the 71-year-old man and his 72-year-old wife were being investigated. In such a case, however, that is not unusual.
