Berlin and Brandenburg face another warning strike on local public transport on Friday: On October 9, according to Verdi’s union, employees of local public transport companies in Berlin and Brandenburg will also hold a warning strike in the national wage dispute. The RBB reported first.

According to Verdi, employees of BVG and Berlin Transport GmbH are being called on a one-day strike. The strike is supposed to start at 3am on Friday and last until 3am on Saturday morning. All areas of BVG are affected.

In Brandenburg, the union calls the following companies from the start of its operations until 12 noon: ViP Verkehrsbetriebe Potsdam GmbH, Regiobus Potsdam Mittelmark GmbH, Havelbus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH and Verkehrsbetriebe Brandenburg an der Havel GmbH.

“In all other Brandenburg transport companies, operations are expected to proceed normally,” Verdi said. The S-Bahn, regional trains and bus routes that are assigned to private bus companies are not affected by the strike in Berlin.

The BVG was last on strike in Berlin for the Verdi union last Tuesday. The strike lasted nine hours. Meanwhile, the Brandenburg companies were called on a 24-hour warning strike.

The great traffic chaos did not occur in Berlin: many switched to bicycles or the S-Bahn. He also used additional trains and drove on routes S1, S3 and S5.

Demand: uniform rates for 87,000 people

The background for this is the demand of the Federal Association of Verdi for a uniform rate regulation nationwide for the approximately 87,000 employees in public transport. The Association of Municipal Business Associations (VKA) rejected this again on Tuesday.

Currently, local transportation rates are negotiated individually in the 16 federal states. Because the working conditions in the respective regions have developed too far from the union’s point of view, regional regulations should be complemented by one at the national level. The VKA rejects this and sees the responsibility of collective bargaining with its member associations at the state level.

“The warning strikes are not only an imposition for the population, but also for the local transport companies affected by the crisis, which have to face a huge loss of income as a result of the Corona crisis,” he said on Tuesday the VKA.

Verdi Federal Vice President Christine Behle responded: “We will inform you about the warning strikes at an early stage so that citizens can adapt to the situation and organize alternatives.” (With dpa)
