Closing no later than Wednesday
The federal-state summit is held on Sunday. But a preliminary decision should already have been made. According to a report, the total lockdown should begin on Wednesday at the latest. But there are still differences on one point.
According to a media report, the federal and state governments have largely agreed to a shutdown to contain the corona pandemic. This should apply no later than December 16 (next Wednesday), reports “Business Insider” magazine. The heads of the state chancellery had agreed this with the chancellery.
It was also said that the Foreign Ministry would prefer December 15 as the start date. According to the report, the lock will initially apply until January 10. An extension will be discussed on January 4. The final decision is to be made Sunday morning at an exchange conference between Chancellor Angela Merkel and the prime minister.
According to the report, retail should remain closed during closing. Exceptions are provided for grocery stores, among other things. Furthermore, according to the report, private gatherings should continue to be limited to two households and a maximum of five people, not including children under 14 years of age. From December 24 to 26, the upper limit will be increased to a maximum of ten people. Then more than two households should be allowed if they are direct relatives. Countries should also be able to draw closer borders here, he said.
According to the report, the most controversial point still open is the issue of schools and kindergartens. Basically, it is agreed that there should be no face-to-face classes until January 10. How this is implemented really depends on the regulations of the individual countries. The Foreign Ministry advocates the closure of the nurseries, but the states want to keep them open.
