After the Corona outbreak at the Weidemark slaughterhouse, the Emsland district restricted public life in Sögel. Meetings are limited, sports halls and fields are closed.

The district administrator Marc-André Burgdorf (CDU) justified the measures in response to the increase in the number of cases in the vicinity of the slaughterhouse. More than 80 employees have tested positive for the virus. In the joint community, a maximum of six people is allowed for gatherings in public and private spaces. This limit also applies to restaurant business per table, as the Emsland district announced Sunday. the Corona’s contact restrictions do not refer to close family members or a gathering of a maximum of two households. Exceptions are occasions such as weddings or first communion celebrations, baptisms or funerals.

Schools: masks now also in class

According to the information, the new general decree is initially valid for two weeks, until October 19, 2020 inclusive. Students and teachers in lower and upper secondary general education schools are required to wear mouth and nose protection during classrooms until fall break. Training and competitions in team or contact sports, as well as school sports, are prohibited. For events in the municipality of Sögel, the general decree specifies a maximum number of 100 participants. It is forbidden to serve liquors after 6 pm and other alcoholic beverages after 10 pm

“Critical score exceeded”

“Across the district area we are seeing a dynamic infection process, which is why we have exceeded the critical mark of 35 new corona cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days with 137 cases currently,” said District Administrator Burgdorf. Since the slaughterhouse can be clearly identified as a major source of infection, district-level measures can now be dispensed with. In addition to the affected slaughterhouse employees and their family members, an elementary school class and a nursery group are also in quarantine after a child tested positive for Covid-19.
