Valle del Cauca lawyer Wilson Ruiz Orejuela was appointed as the new Minister of Justice by President Iván Duque in an announcement made this Wednesday.

Ruiz Orejuela is a lawyer from the Free University and a Doctor of Law from the Alfonso X el Sabio University, in Madrid, Spain, with extensive professional experience in Public Law, specifically in the area of ​​administrative litigation.

His appointment comes after Margarita Cabello, who was in said ministry, was elected as Attorney General of the Nation.

“I want to inform the country that today I have appointed Dr. Wilson Ruiz as the new Minister of Justice and Law. He has a doctorate in Law from one of the most recognized universities in Spain, he has served as a magistrate and president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, has served as deputy attorney, has been a university professor for several years, “he said.

The president entrusted him with the task of continuing to advance in the reform processes that are being discussed in the Congress of the Republic, as well as bringing Justice to the citizen, the digital file, the consolidation of alternative mechanisms for conflict resolution and the agrarian jurisdiction.

The President also asked him to accompany the Ruta Futuro policy, to fight against drugs for illicit use, through institutional coordination and so that the criminal structures of drug trafficking can continue to be prosecuted.

Wilson Ruiz Orejuela was president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary in 2015, and of the Disciplinary Chamber of this body of justice in 2013. Similarly, he was a magistrate of the Disciplinary Chamber of this institution of justice between 2012 and 2015.

He is the author of legal works on topics as diverse as human rights, State responsibility, health and the environment.
