At least 75 police officers from various cities flocked to the Mayfair Mall in Wisconsin, where at least eight people have been injured in a shooting. The shooter, between 20 and 30 years old, remains a fugitive.

Several people were injured this Friday in a shooting in a shopping center in the town of Wauwatosa, in Wisconsin (United States).

The mayor of the town, Dennis McBride, did not confirm the number of injured in the shooting, but said in a statement that none are in a situation where their lives are in danger.

McBride said about 75 police officers from several nearby cities went to the Mayfair Mall, where the incident occurred, but the suspect has not been detained.

“It will take time to provide additional, and perhaps more accurate information, but the information will be released as it becomes available,” the mayor said in his statement.

The Milwaukee Division of the Federal Police (FBI), on the outskirts of which is Wauwatosa, is also cooperating in the investigation.

According to witnesses cited by local media, between eight and twelve shots were heard during the shooting, and after the arrival of emergency teams, about five people were taken out on a stretcher from the shopping center.

The Mayfair Mall was the scene of a shooting last February in which a Wauwatosa agent, Joseph Mensah, shot and killed 17-year-old black Alvin Cole while allegedly fleeing police.

Due to that incident, the mall was the target of sporadic protests for several months.

Mensah, who is also black and who said he shot the young man because he pointed a gun at him, was not prosecuted by justice, but as a result of the incident, he recently reached an agreement with the city that he will leave the police in exchange of a compensation of US $ 130,000.
