Due to the change in conditions due to the new coronavirus pandemic, the mayor of Cali, Jorge iván Ospina, announced that for this year there will be no “Christmas lighting.”
Through his twitter account, the president said that it will not be allowed to attend en masse as is done every year, this to prevent the virus from spreading.
This does not mean that special events will not be held, as Ospina indicated there will be lighting in floats, bicycles and gualas, which will visit all sectors of the city.

“This year we cannot have” El Alumbrado Navideño “as a point of concentration and meeting of warmth for several days, the risks would be very high and the virus is lurking there. We will have a mobile lighting of floats, bicycles and buses that will visit each commune “, wrote.
In addition, the doctor referred to the Cali Fair, although he did not give clues as to how it is being planned, if he commented that “we must continue to think of a creative concept for the Fair.”
It should be mentioned that last year, Christmas and the New Year were accompanied by about 10 million lights in streets and public spaces, the investment made was $ 12 billion.
This lighting, which opens every December 7 and runs until January 6 of the following year, is also a possibility of employment, since thousands of street vendors are located in the spaces where the Christmas Lighting is located.
It should be remembered that according to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the Valle Health Secretariat, 37,561 positive cases of covid-19 have been registered in Cali.
