The measure was not well seen by the union, which ensures that it will have great losses, since the new measure would leave them “unable to work.”

The restriction on the sale of liquor throughout the city and the prohibition of its consumption in public spaces during this December 24 and 31 in Bogotá took the bars and liquor distributors by surprise, who were preparing for the “largest sales of the year”. The new measure of the District puts the union on a tightrope, which it assures will have losses.

Starting at midnight on Tuesday and until 11:59 pm on December 27, the sale and consumption of alcohol in public spaces is prohibited, a measure that will be repeated from December 30 to January 3. Altogether, parties were also prohibited both at home and outside of them.

For bars and liquor distributors, who were expecting big sales those nights, they see the measure with pessimism. “It’s going to hit us a lot more, because we are trying to get up from the pandemic and we thought that December would be of great help, that we were going to get it out of the stadium. We need to get back to work with all of our employees, pay debts, and generally recover from this pandemic that has hit us so hard. It affects us more precisely, because after Christmas it is the weekend, ”said Gustavo Oviedo, owner of the Super Depósito de la Pola liquor store.

A similar opinion has Alberto Vanegas, administrator of the Punto Cervecero gastrobar. “Again we were completely unprotected. Being the most affected guild. They put us out of work again. Without seeing that from this union we also work and pay the same taxes, employees, operating expenses and we have families to support. And the rest of formal and informal commerce completely open and without any control ”.

While Jorge Mendieta, who also has his own liquor store, showed his rejection of prohibition. “Of course I disagree, because I directly depend on the sale of liquors and we are talking about the two most important dates of the year. It seems disastrous for the economy. I don’t know what we are going to do, ”he said.

In this regard, Asobares, the association that groups establishments and businesses that are dedicated to the sale of alcohol, assured that the measure is a brake on the reactivation. “We reject the restrictions that are imposed on a sector that has made great efforts. First, closing voluntarily and after six months without operation, hoping to be able to open gradually, complying with the required health measures ”.

They also warned that this type of measure encourages illegality. “This crisis and the absolute prohibitions on organized sectors continue to show that they only strengthen illegality, clandestine markets and spaces without sanitary control.”

This is just one of the series of measures that have been announced since last Sunday, in order to control the increase in COVID-19 infections in the city. In addition to the restrictions on the consumption of intoxicating beverages during the celebrations, the peak and ID were implemented until next January 15, and the sale of intoxicating beverages was prohibited after 10 p.m.

Along with this, it was recommended that citizens not hold meetings or celebrations in groups of more than 10 people, as it was requested to maintain isolation for at least eight days before the meetings.
