The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce required 86 funeral homes nationwide to verify the conditions and information that has been provided to consumers about changes and restrictions on costs in the provision of funeral services, as well as care channels.

According to the control entity, these actions are carried out after reports of alleged irregularities in the services provided by funeral services companies, related to delays in service, poor management of the information provided to relatives of deceased persons and additional charges, taking advantage of the health emergency for the covid-19.

In addition, the entity asked funeral service providers to report on the biosecurity procedures implemented, in cases related to the virus.

According to the GIPG08 Guide by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, lFuneral service providers must comply with the recommendations regarding the safe handling, transportation and disposal of corpses infected by the coronavirus, in order to decrease the risk of contamination.

Lastly, this authority will verify whether, adducing the biosecurity measures implemented, additional charges have been made to those initially agreed upon in the framework of the state of economic, social and ecological emergency of March 17, 2020.
