On the night of this Sunday, December 3, the General Maritime Directorate (Dimar), through the Captaincy of the Port of Cartagena, announced that in the midst of the controls carried out on the vessels they were attacked by a group of people who were in Cholón.

“About 1:30 pm, once the Colombian Maritime Authority reminded the vessels to comply with the established schedule, a group of people from the Cholón swamp and the sector known as Playa Azul attacked the officials who were on board the boat from the Captaincy of the Port of Cartagena, causing damage to the hull and glass of the motor ship ”, detailed the maritime authority.

This taking into account that the vessels had to be back in the internal bay at 3:00 pm, since the Port of Cartagena is under a yellow flag, presenting winds in a northeast direction with speeds of 19 to 22 knots (35-40 km / h) and wave height between 2.9 and 3.3 meters.

The Captaincy added that it will formally notify the district authorities about the events that have occurred, so that the situation can be evaluated and the necessary measures taken to preserve the physical integrity of the officials, as well as compliance with the protocols, permits and agreements previously reached, in the city with the communities and union involved in tourist activity.

High influx

In addition to this aggression, the Captaincy of the Port of Cartagena also warned about the high influx of visitors to the beaches, places where there was little control and non-compliance with biosafety measures, in accordance with the protocol required by the Ministry of Health.

The Captaincy specified that according to the controls exercised between January 1 and 3 in the marinas, yacht clubs, Los Pegasos pier, La Bodeguita tourist pier; and docks of Manga, Bocagrande and Castillogrande, the latter authorized only for the embarkation and disembarkation of the owners of the boats, the movement of 8,075 passengers in 601 motor ships was registered; likewise, it prevented the departure of 7 boats, 1 violation and 1 immobilization for not complying with the merchant marine regulations.

Finally, the General Maritime Directorate called on pilots, owners and passengers to comply with the measures and recommendations given, in order to guarantee the safety of human life at sea, safety in the transit of vessels and the protection of the marine environment.
