The delegation of the National Government, led by the Minister of the Interior, Alicia Arango, did not reach an agreement with the representatives of the indigenous minga at the meeting held this Tuesday, in Cali.

This second meeting, held at the Cultural Center of the city, was accompanied by local authorities. Leaders of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca, CRIC, absent from this Monday’s meeting, also attended this space.

“The National Government respects peaceful protest, remains open to dialogue and continues to be present in the indigenous minga, but it is clear that this is not assertive but rather political, as its members have expressed,” emphasized Arango, in the company of Miguel Ceballos, high commissioner for La Paz, after the table was raised.

And he pointed out that “being a political minga, that will be the management that the Government will give it in the conversation. We insist on establishing work routes to address their political concerns, find an effective way to move forward and resolve all the requests expressed.”

In addition, he insisted on the urgency of identifying which issues concern “the public sector, and which ones the State.”

He called for full compliance with the biosecurity measures for the covid-19 pandemic. He said that the health emergency “is a reality and crowds are prohibited.”

The indigenous minga arrived in Cali this Monday, from the department of Cauca. The indigenous communities, installed in the El Pueblo Coliseum, demand the presence of President Iván Duque to listen to their requests.

They have stated that, if necessary, they will travel to Bogotá to speak with the president. The purpose of the indigenous minga “is the defense of life, peace, territory and democracy.”
