The governor in charge of Antioquia, Luis Fernando Suárez, announced this Wednesday that the curfew is extended by 24 hours by the end of the year due to the increase in deaths from COVID – 19 and the occupation of ICU beds.
In other words, the measure will be in force from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31 to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 3. in the subregions of Valle de Aburrá, east, west and southwest.
Although the numbers of daily infections have an apparent reduction (…) the observation that we make is that the department continues with more or less 2,000 people infected daily and the mortality figure does not reduce. Additionally, we see with great concern that bed occupancy continues to increase, both with COVID and non-COVID patients.
Suarez said.
According to the departmental Health Secretariat, the occupancy of ICU beds in Antioquia is 82.7%, in the metropolitan area, 86%; andn the east, in 96.7%, and in Medellín in 87%.
For this reason, Suárez added, they met with the leaders of these subregions to agree on the measures, which have the support of the National Government, as the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, said on his Twitter account.
Important: With the National and Departmental governments and in consensus with all the Mayors of the Metropolitan Area, it was agreed to extend the curfew one more day for the end of the year festivities. Therefore it starts at 8PM on December 31st and runs until Sunday January 3rd at 6AM.

In addition, the hospital red alert is also extended until January 13, therefore, non-urgent surgeries are suspended.
