With a worried face and a rather critical tone of voice, Everth Hawkins, the governor of San Andrés and Providencia, reported on Tuesday that the number of Covid-19 infections in the archipelago skyrocketed on Tuesday.

“I don’t know if it’s a good afternoon,” said the Governor. “First we reported one case, then there were six and now there are fifteen new infections,” he confirmed.

With this rebound, San Andrés reached a total of 21 infected, although five of them are already recovered.

According to Hawkins, seven of these new cases are related to the arrival of the Whisper ship, which arrived on the island a few days ago with a deceased from this disease.

The other cases, precisely, are of people from the National Navy and the health sector, who had contact with this crew; four of them are in Providencia.

The Governor of San Andrés, in addition, criticized that in its population there are people who are not respecting the isolation.

The order for people is to stock up and return to their homes, but there are people who do not understand that, “he said.

San Andrés, whose economy depends practically 80% on tourism, is experiencing very difficult times due to the disease that originated just over five months ago in Wuham, China.
