Natalia Paris ordered not to publish more fake news about chlorine dioxide – Health

The Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) ordered this Wednesday the model Natalia Paris stop sharing content on your social networks that recommend the use of chlorine dioxide to treat or avoid coronavirus and other ills. This, after the Antioqueña affirmed on Instagram that this substance dangerous to health was “the remedy that saves you from getting vaccinated.”

Specifically, the SIC orders Paris to “immediately cease” the promotion of this product. “and remove the comments in which he invited people to consume it to prevent contagion” with the new coronavirus.

In resolution 21-33907, signed yesterday, the SIC also asked the businesswoman to “provide all the information about the laboratory that produces the chlorine dioxide that it promotes on its social networks and to indicate whether the recommended product has a health registration.”

Paris must also send “all publications used to recommend or promote the product”, clarifying the means and dates of diffusion; and the documentary supports (technical and / or scientific) that support the benefits attributed to chlorine dioxide, especially those related to the prevention and cure of covid-19.

It is noted that, if a clear, complete and precise answer is not provided to each of these requirements within five business days, is exposed to the respective sanctions.

Invima has been clear in pointing out that dioxide only has a sanitary registration as a surface disinfectant in the clinical setting, but never as a medicine, much less with an indication for covid-19. Its use, therefore, is considered fraudulent when it is marketed for human consumption.

The Colombian health authority last May had already issued a health alert warning of the risks that this substance implies for people’s health.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also warns that the consumption of this product may cause adverse effects such as respiratory insufficiency; changes in the electrical activity of the heart; low blood pressure caused by dehydration; acute liver failure; low blood cell count and vomiting and severe diarrhea.

Chlorine dioxide as a miracle formula against covid-19 began to be heard about a year ago and gained strength when President Donald Trump affirmed that he was taking it as a prophylaxis against the virus. And now he made the headlines again on behalf of Natalia Paris.

She uploaded a video to Instagram over the weekend in which she is seen DJing at a party on a boat in which neither she nor her companions wear masks. One of her followers questioned her about the lack of that protection measure and she replied: “We all take chlorine dioxide. It is the remedy that saves you from getting vaccinated ”.

In other responses she posted, Paris insists that taking that chemical “No one is going to covid-19 disease” and asks whoever questioned her to give it to her family.

And then, when his affirmations jumped to the media, he posted on Instagram stories a dialogue with a man who claimed that this was the true cure for covid-19, something that, it is worth remembering, lacks any scientific support.

Why is chlorine dioxide dangerous?

Chlorine dioxide is a substance that is generated by mixing sodium chlorite, water, and citric acid, a product known commercially as Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS).

According to the FDA, chlorine dioxide is an effective agent to prevent the spread of coronavirus, but only on surfaces, or in water. Injecting, breathing or swallowing solutions with this chemical can cause adverse health effects.

The Colombian Pharmacovigilance Association (ACFV), the Colombian Clinical Toxicology Association (ATCC), the Colombian Safety Council (CCS) and the Colombian Association of Hospital Pharmaceutical Chemists (ACQFH) have already declared that “the consumption or injection of chemical products, as disinfectants and cleaning and cleaning products, it causes serious damage to health and can even cause death ”and that “None of these chemicals have been designed or are suitable for human consumption.”

In this sense, they agreed that “these products should never be used in a way different from that indicated on the label and they should not be mixed with each other, because they can generate dangerous reactions causing serious damage to health.”

The Colombian toxicologist Ubier Gómez explains that it is not recommended to use products based on chlorine dioxide or sodium chlorite orally or parenterally (intravenous, intra-arterial, intramuscular and subcutaneous) in patients with suspected or diagnosed covid-19, or in any another case, “Because there is no evidence on their efficacy and the ingestion or inhalation of these products could cause serious adverse effects.”

“Chlorine dioxide, a gas used as a bleach in water treatment plants and paper mills, and sodium hypochlorite, a disinfectant marketed as a household bleach, could be toxic if ingested and can cause a variety of adverse effects.” he adds.

Gomez states that when it comes to specifically chlorine dioxide, or MMS, he has not found any publication with well-designed studies regarding its therapeutic potential. “There are some documents in which cases of cure of different pathologies are described, but of questionable scientific validity, as they are a series of descriptive cases, lack of an adequate diagnostic technique and, on occasions, supporting the pathology only based on symptoms ”, He sustains.
