The French gendarmerie searched the room of one of the hotels owned by Colombian Nairo Quintana and two of his other compatriots at the Arkea last week during the Tour de France, within an open investigation without ties to the country’s anti-doping authorities.

According to the French press, the search took place last Wednesday at the hotel in Megeve, in the Alps, early in the morning.

The investigation has no connection with the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD), responsible for the controls during the Tour, he adds. Quintana, who came to the Tour with options to get on the podium for the fourth time in his career, was dismounted from that fight after suffering three falls.

The Boyacá rider finished in 17th place more than an hour behind the winner, the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. It is not the first time that the gendarmerie environmental brigade investigates participants in the Tour de France, although their investigations have never determined the commission of crimes.

In 2017 they opened an investigation to determine if there were motors in the bicycles of some cyclists, but they closed it at the beginning of this year for lack of tests. Last year they also turned their attention to the Deceuninck team, but the investigation was also shelved.
