The Minister of Defense continues to be hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Military Hospital in Bogotá.

The Presidency of the Republic reported that the Minister of Defense, Carlos Holmes Trujillo García, is still hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Central Military Hospital where he has received medical attention for contagion of COVID-19 since last January 14. “The evolution of his lung condition has been favorable; he continues with ventilatory support and antibiotic coverage ”, he indicated in a press release. Trujillo García has been receiving ventilation support in the Intensive Care Unit of that medical center since last January 19. This Sunday, the Presidency pointed out that the official “needs to continue under strict monitoring by the comprehensive and multidisciplinary medical team of this hospital center.”

Minister Trujillo was diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 viral pneumonia. Due to the health situation of the official, President Iván Duque decided that the commander of the Military Forces, General Luis Fernando Navarro, temporarily assumed as defense minister.

Trujillo has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (2018-2019) and of Defense (2019-2021). Prior to his career within the government of Iván Duque, he was a contender for him as a presidential candidate of Uribismo, his second failure in the attempt to reach the House of Nariño after being defeated in 2013 by Óscar Iván Zuluaga.
