In a joint meeting in the Alpujarra this Wednesday, the Antioquia Government, the Medellín Mayor’s Office and the Ministry of Health unified the containment plan for this festive Halloween bridge, a determination that includes the 125 municipalities of the department, including Girardota that had initially departed from the measures.
The measures announced were the following:
1. Prohibition: from Friday at 6:00 pm to Monday at 11:59 pm
2. Night curfew for adults: from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
3. Continuous curfew for minors: from 6:00 pm on Friday to 6:00 pm on Monday.
The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, expressed his concern about the growing number of infections and the ICU occupation in Antioquia. “The demand for ICU beds has been increasing, with levels between 80 and 90%, with a high number of non-covid patients. We must act immediately ”, he anticipated.

These measures, argued Ruiz, seek to avoid trauma and road incidents that have soared since the full economic reopening (September 1). He added that the measures include the suspension of unscheduled surgeries and reiterated the goal of reaching 1,400 ICU beds this year. He insisted on self-care measures in citizens to avoid contagion.

Governor Aníbal Gaviria Correa said that the measures were agreed by the three state levels and that their impact will be analyzed next week to make new determinations. “It is intended that in December equal or more restrictive measures will not have to be taken, these actions seek to reduce contagion ”, he declared.
For his part, Mayor Daniel Quintero said that Medellín is on a contagion plateau with oscillations. He called for citizen responsibility to avoid having to occupy more ICU beds.
“It will be a different Halloween, children should not leave the houses throughout the weekend, there will be restrictions to avoid parties, even in houses. We have noticed a relaxation, we need everyone to take care of themselves, “he said.
