In a virtual ceremony – however, international – the 2020 Latin Grammys rewarded the best exponents of Latin music this Thursday night.
Under the motto “Music humanizes us”, the gala took advantage of the virtual nature of the ceremony to change scenery, jumping between various cities.
Artists from Madrid, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Guadalajara, San Juan and, as headquarters, Miami participated.
Various presentations highlighted the current pandemic crisis, particularly Pitbull’s song, “I Believe That We Will Win,” dedicated to medical workers on the front lines of the fight against coronavirus.
One of the most sought-after awards, that of Best Song of the Year, went to the Puerto Rican Residente with “René”, a confessional issue in which he addresses his mental health, among other things.
In his acceptance speech, the singer urged colleagues to focus more on the art of making music rather than the numbers that determine success.
“Art was not made to set records, we are not in the Olympics,” he said, while urging reducing the obsession with social networks.
