Kim Il-sung (1912-1994) is known as the great leader. He was the grandfather of Kim Jong-un, was the first president of North Korea, and ruled from 1948 until his death.

Kim Jong-suk (1917-1949) she was the first wife of Kim Il-sung. Kim Jong-il’s mother and Kim Jong-un’s grandmother, she was an independent activist and communist politician. She died at age 31, when she gave birth to her third child.
Kim Song-ae (1924-2001) She was Kim Il-sung’s second wife. She was the secretary to the North Korean leader, and years after the death of his first wife, he married him and they had three children.

Jang Song-thaek (1946-2013) was Kim Jong-un’s uncle. He was executed at the age of 67 by the North Korean regime accused of treason. He was considered the mentor of his nephew and one of the most powerful men in the regime. In 2010, he was named vice president of the National Defense Commission. He had close ties to China, and in 2012 he traveled to Beijing on behalf of Kim Jong-un.
