Key meeting that could open government dialogue with indigenous minga – Government – Politics

The Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, met on Saturday afternoon with the leaders of the indigenous minga in Fusagasugá, Cundinamarca, in an attempt to find an alternative for a dialogue with the National Government.

The Ombudsman’s Office, since the beginning of the week, had offered the possibility of serving for dialogue between the parties.

Therefore, the meeting in Fusagasugá makes it clear that the Defender will be the facilitator. The minga asks that President Iván Duque meet with them, while from the House of Nariño they insist that the dialogue is with the Government (high-level officials).

After that dialogue in Fusagasugá, the defender will meet at noon this Sunday with the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz; the Minister of the Interior, Alicia Arango, as well as the High Commissioner for Peace, Miguel Ceballos, and some vice ministers.

Basically, the indigenous Camargo was asked to act as an interlocutor to speak with President Duque, in addition to some key concerns. And Camargo will express to official officials what the minga wants.

According to the Peace Commissioner, they will attend the meeting, where they will reiterate that the National Government has been and will continue to be “Respectful of open dialogue and constructive dialogue”.

Ceballos said that a meeting of members of the Government with the minga can be generated, but respecting the limitations of the pandemic.

The National Government respects and will respect peaceful dialogue and the respectful dialogue of the Constitution and the law ”, said the Commissioner, who highlighted the accompaniment that the Police are doing to the minga.
