At noon this Wednesday, Democrat Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States in a ceremony with pomp but without crowds on the esplanade of the Mall of Washington, surrounded by an unprecedented deployment of security forces.

Biden is expected to arrive at the Capitol at around 11:15 a.m. when ceremonies begin on a dais mounted on the western facade of the Capitol and Leo J. O’donovan, a Jesuit priest, deliver a religious invocation.

Next, Andrea Hall, the first African-American woman to achieve the rank of captain in the South Fulton Fire Department, Georgia, will recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Preparations include an extensive security deployment around the Capitol and Washington.

As soon as the clock chimes signal noon, Chief Justice John Roberts will take the constitutional oath that Biden will pronounce with his hand on an 1893 edition of the Bible, held by his wife.

The ceremony on Capitol Hill will culminate with a speech that the new president will address to the nation.

During Wednesday night there will be a whole musical and artistic show that can be followed virtually.

Later, Biden and former first lady Jill, along with Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, will review a military formation with squads from the four armed forces, in honor of the peaceful transfer of power to a new commander-in-chief, and will move to Arlington National Cemetery to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Surrounded by an honorary military escort, Biden and Jill, accompanied by Harris and Emhoff, will then go to the White House, of which a few hours before the former president will have left Donald Trump, who refused to participate in the transmission of command. During the afternoon there will be celebrations and artistic performances throughout the country.

Starting at 8:30 pm Tom Hanks, Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington will present a 90 minute virtual show in which Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Jon Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Demi Lovato, Ant Celmons, Ozuna, Luis will be present. Fonsi and Lin-Manuel Miranda, among others.
