Jesús Quintana, director of Ciat, was released

Jesús Antonio Quintana García, Managing Director for the Americas of the Alliance
Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (Ciat), was released in the last hours.

The manager was kidnapped on Sunday afternoon by an armed group in the municipality of Toribío, Cauca, when he was going to Neiva, Huila.

Although details of his release are not known, it is known that the manager is in good health.

This was stated by Juan Lucas Restrepo, CEO of Ciat, on his Twitter account.

“Jesús Quintana has been released. On his way home. He is safe and sound. We are happy !!” he wrote.

Restrepo also thanked the authorities, indigenous communities, social organizations and “all those who mobilized to ensure his release.”

“The Alliance also extends its gratitude to the global community who sent us their good wishes and expressed their concern for Jesus during this difficult situation,” said Restrepo.

Quintana is a native of Malaga, Spain, and has more than 30 years of professional experience. Before coming to Ciat he worked in countries such as Guatemala, Mozambique, Bolivia, Paraguay and the Philippines.
