A group of researchers from Japan have been successful in confirming the development of an antibody that can prevent new infections of the new coronavirus, local media reported.

The team works at the University of Kitasato, Tokyo, in collaboration with the Kao firm and the emerging firm Epsilon Molecular Engineering.

“There is hope that the results of this research could lead to the development of therapeutic and diagnostic agents against new coronavirus infections,” says the study’s introduction.

Research has artificially developed a single domain antibody known as VHH that can act against SARS-CoV-2, the COVID-19 virus.

“It has been confirmed that the infection of the new coronavirus in the cells was suppressed when this antibody was added,” says the study in its conclusions.

“Therefore,” he adds, “the HHV antibody can not only bind to the new coronavirus, but also has the ability to suppress infection.”

The University of Kitasato is one of the most prestigious in the field of research in Japan, and has, among other scientists, the 2015 Nobel Prize in Medicine Satoshi Omura. For its part, the Kao firm has 130 years of history working in the areas of health and cosmetics.
