The fight against injuries, finally, led to the Colombian attacker Jackson Martinez to officially announce his retirement from football on Monday. ‘Cha cha cha’, 34, played his last professional match on July 27 with the Portimonense, that that day he said goodbye to the first division of Portugal.
Martínez arrived at that club after experiencing an ordeal of almost three years, in which he suffered a lot to recover. On November 12, 2015, in the match against Chile, valid for the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Russia, Jackson was injured: the situation was treated as a standing neck sprain. Jackson was out of court for a month and a half.

By then, Martinez was in the Atlético de Madrid. At the beginning of 2016, the Spanish team received an offer from Guangzhou Evergrande, for 42 million euros, and sold to the Colombian. A couple of months after his transfer, in April 2016, ‘Chachachá’ had another relapse.
Jackson played his last game for Guangzhou Evergrande on October 26, 2016, in a 2-0 win over Jiangsu Suning. But before that, many times he played with the pain in his left ankle, until he couldn’t take it anymore. He underwent surgery in November 2016, to cure him of the problem. The initial time of disability was six months. But when he was in recovery, the pain persisted.
The club sent him to the United States. There they discovered that Martínez had a spur, which is a kind of bone formation that occurs in the heel area. That forced him to undergo surgery again, in July 2017.

This is Jackson’s farewell message:
