In order to continue implementing measures for the gradual, responsible and safe economic reactivation of Barranquilla, The District Mayor’s Office announced the training and accompaniment program, with which they hope to reach nearly 40,000 independent, informal and business workers.

In the first instance, and as a result of the request made in previous days by the district president to the National Government, They will be given accompaniment in the elaboration and implementation of biosafety protocols, so that they can reactivate their economic activities.

“We are going to shake hands with those who need it: downtown merchants, shoemakers, locksmiths, neighborhood stores, fast food businesses, hairdressers, miscellaneous, manicurists, air conditioning technicians, plumbers and more. There will be more than 20 subsectors more related to the daily life of the citizen, whom we will help in the design and implementation of biosafety protocols adapted to their context. For this, we will have the academic support and scientific rigor of a great ally such as the Universidad Simón Bolívar, “said Mayor Jaime Pumarejo.

The president added that “to the extent that all Barranquilla members do our part, complying with strict care and the recommendations of these new social dynamics, the informal sector that has not yet seen the opportunity to return to working life may begin to operate . This depends on each of us. ”

Economic recovery plan

The Administration explained that the economic recovery plan includes a component to strengthen the skills of workers so that they adapt as soon as possible to these new environmental conditions., supporting the sustainability of their businesses and that they can continue to develop their economic activities or migrate to new occupations.

In that sense, through the District Entrepreneur Support Unit There will be the support of a team of experts in business growth and innovation, who since 2016 have been working with the Mayor of Barranquilla and in addition to scientific support, know the business and economic dynamics of the city. Specialized consultancies will be provided to solve problems specific to each sector; routes for generating business models, and other tools and open calls to contribute to crisis management.

The district secretary for Economic Development, Ricardo Plata Sarabia, He explained that “with the Entrepreneur Support Unit, together with our Mayor’s Opportunity Center, we are going to characterize all the beneficiaries, taking into account demographic and economic variables of the base economy. To the extent that we identify their needs, we will provide them with the tools that this situation demands and we will be contributing to the sustainability of employment in the city, even in the midst of the crisis. ”

The plan also includes an open and collaborative innovation component aimed at business solutions that contribute not only to reactivation, but also to adaptation.

This call will be aimed at creating solutions for daily life through local companies, universities, young people, enthusiasts, among others, in various categories: elements of protection, business models, adaptability of companies, safe productive inclusion and access to work. , industries 4.0 in health and social dynamics of physical distancing.
