High Commissioner for Peace will meet with indigenous peoples in Cauca

Through a video, the High Commissioner for Peace, Miguel Ceballos, announced that he will advance an agenda of visits to indigenous communities in the department of Cauca, in compliance with commitments previously acquired by the National Government with said communities.

According to Ceballos, these visits will begin from Tuesday October 20 and they will be to several of the main municipalities of said department, where the indigenous settlements mark an important component of the population.

“Tomorrow we travel to Totoró, in the department of Cauca, where we have an appointment with the Indigenous Minga. It is the beginning of a series of nine visits to indigenous peoples as agreed on October 5, to advance the Social Plan of Cauca “, Ceballos affirmed through a video, at a time when Bogotá, the capital of the country, received about 7,000 indigenous people of the Minga, who arrived in the city with the aim of pressuring a dialogue table with the Government, with the presence of Iván Duque, President of the Republic.

According to Ceballos, the visit to the department of Cauca includes nine meetings with communities that are members of the call Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC), entity that joins about 127 indigenous peoples of that region of the country.

During his speech, broadcast on video by the Presidency of the Republic, Ceballos affirms that the National Government has rigorously complied with the commitments previously agreed to with indigenous communities, and dismisses that the Indigenous Minga, with thousands of people, is motivated by non-compliance with the agreements between the Central Government and the indigenous authorities.

During his speech, Miguel Ceballos pointed out that this visit schedule had previously been consulted with Hermes Pete, spokesman for the indigenous mobilization today stationed in Bogotá, who had approved the schedule since the past. October 5th.

In accordance with the schedule set by the National Government, and announced by the High Commissioner Ceballos, on October 20 the official will meet in Totoró with the Oriente Association, while two days later he will arrive in the municipality of Páez for a meeting with the Tierradentro Association.

The report also requires a visit to Popayán on the 23rd, and on the 26th, to Santa Rosa, a municipality where the scheduled meeting is with the South Yanacona Association.

The official will visit Silvia and Morales, where on October 27 and 28 he will meet with the East and North Association ACIN, respectively.

The mission will also reach the municipality of Timbiqui, to meet with the Pacific Association, and in Pure will meet in November with Coconuco.

Finally, the regional tour will close on November 3 in Caldono, in a meeting that will be aimed at listening to the Mayor’s Office and local communities.
