Due to the increase in cases in Santander in recent weeks, a session of the Unified Command Post was held to contain the Covid-19. The meeting was attended by mayors, the Public Force, unions and the Government of Santander.

After finishing the PMU, the Secretary of Health of the department, Javier Villamizar, spoke about the recommendations and the lines of action that should be followed in the coming days in all the municipalities of the region.

“The country and Santander are at a frank peak due to infections and deaths, therefore, it is necessary to work jointly to unify the measures adopted in the municipalities of the metropolitan area,” said the official.

In order to cut the transmission chains, reduce the impact of other pathologies typical of December dates and thus avoid the collapse of the ICUs, the following recommendations were made:

– Increase the force footing to control the informal sector.

– Restrict mobility with a curfew and ‘Pico y Cédula’ with even and odd modality.

– Limit non-urgent procedures in the metropolitan area and San Gil due to the increase in ICU occupancy.

– Continue with the PRASS strategy in the provinces.

“We have the responsibility with the people of Santander to propose these recommendations, as well as to continue intensively with the active search to identify cases in a timely manner,” Villamizar concluded.

In Santander the number of new infections this Wednesday was 594. This means that in the department there are already 63,287 people who have been infected with Covid-19. Also, 15 people died. The number of fatalities rose to 2,253.
