The Interior Minister, Alicia Arango, announced that the National Government gave the guarantee to 90 free municipalities of Covid-19 to lift the mandatory preventive isolation, among them is El Socorro, Santander. 155 requests have been submitted by local authorities.

The Head of the Interior Ministry explained that the opening of a productive life does not mean that these 90 municipalities have free access to carry out economic activities that put their inhabitants at risk.

“This process is not automatic, it has three steps: the first, the Ministry of Health has to certify that this municipality is not affected by Covid; second, the Ministry of Health has to prepare safety protocols for that municipality, because we cannot forget what the president has said, first is the health of all Colombians; and third, the Ministry of the Interior will authorize the municipality to lift the mandatory preventive isolation to boost its economy, “said Arango.

Among the municipalities that have received authorization from the Ministry of the Interior are Turbo (Antioquia), El Socorro (Santander), Mocoa (Putumayo), San José del Guaviare (Guaviare), San José de Caldas (Caldas), San Pedro ( Valle del Cauca), Montañita (Caquetá), San Antero (Córdoba), Cáqueza (Cundinamarca), Carmen de Carupa (Cundinamarca), among others.

However, the minister reiterated that crowds are prohibited and spaces such as restaurants (homes are allowed), gyms, sports fields, parks, swimming pools, children’s games, mechanical attractions, among others, will not be open.

Similarly, the official made it clear that if positive cases of the virus occur in these municipalities, mandatory preventive isolation should be activated and the Ministry of Health will be in charge of evaluating what type of productive activities can continue to operate.

The local authorities are in charge of processing before the National Government the requests for the gradual reopening of the economy in the municipalities where there is no Covid-19 presence, following the protocols established by the health authorities.

Once these requirements have been met, it is not the obligation of the mayors of the non-covid-19 municipalities to lift the quarantine.

“This is not mandatory. It is the power of the mayors and citizens if they consider that it is necessary to open their economy to begin to energize it and that the citizens begin to work and have a more normal life, “he stressed.

Meanwhile, in his speech during the President’s speech, this Wednesday, the Governor of Santander, Mauricio Aguilar, stated that he will request the Ministry of the Interior to allow him to reactivate new economic sectors in the Bucaramanga metropolitan area, taking into account good management. of preventive measures.
