At dawn this Saturday he passed away at the Prado Clinic in Santa Marta Barranquilla doctor Enrique Gamarra Acosta, who had been in the intensive care unit for more than a month because of covid-19.
The doctor, as this newspaper learned, was infected with another group of health workers at the Cehoca Clinic in the capital of Magdalena, which forced the closure of the ICU in that place by the health authorities.
Gamarra Acosta, 63, also provided her services to the Clinica Mar Caribe de Santa Marta.
“He was admitted on April 6 with a picture of respiratory distress, a manifestation presented after physical contact with a covid-19 positive patient. Notwithstanding the immediate availability of the clinic’s human and scientific resources for their care for more than a month, in the early hours of today he presented a cardiorespiratory arrest that could not be overcome despite the maneuvers carried out, ”reported the Prado Clinic.
Just this Saturday, new figures were released on the involvement of the coronavirus in health workers in the country. They go 678, 527 of them (77 percent) have been infected in the middle of the exercise of their profession. They represent 6.7% of all infections.
In addition, nine deaths have been recorded in health personnel and related to the sector.
