Filippo Ganna is making his debut in a big way in a three-week lap. The Italian, world champion gold in time trial, fulfilled the predictions and prevailed in the inaugural test of this Giro (against the clock) making good his favoritism. It was in the fifth stage that he surprised everyone: victory on a mountainous day, rising like never seen before and winning solo since the breakout. Almeida retained the lead without much movement among the general favorites. Pello Bilbao is already second.
