14:34 (CET). New restrictions in Iran after record of more than 9,000 coronavirus cases in 24 hours

Iran announced this Saturday (11/07/2020) a new record of 9,450 coronavirus infections and 423 deaths in 24 hours in the country, the most affected in the Middle East, and the application of new restrictions for businesses. The total balance of the pandemic in Iran amounts to 673,250 infected, of which 37,832 died, according to the Ministry of Health.

Faced with the upsurge, Iranian President Hasan Rohani announced new restriction measures to contain the virus during a meeting of the unit to combat the epidemic. 13:28 (CET). Austria wants to hire unemployed as coronavirus positives trackers

The Austrian Ministry of Labor announced this Saturday (11/07/2020) a plan for the elderly and long-term unemployed to work as trackers of coronavirus cases, given the high number of infections, which has set a new record this day, and of deaths. In the last 24 hours, 8,241 infections were registered, 11 percent more than the previous peak, on Thursday.

“In cooperation with the AMS (the national employment office) we make available the necessary means to promote this work activity”, explained the Minister of Labor, the conservative Christine Aschbacher. The Government’s plan is for the different regions to take advantage of the labor reintegration plans that already existed to employ unemployed people in tasks to fight the pandemic, for example as trackers or in access controls to nursing homes.

The country has been subjected to partial confinement since Tuesday, with the closure of all leisure and gastronomy activities, distance education for students over 14 years of age and a curfew from 8:00 p.m. , during which you can continue going for a walk or doing sports. (EFE)

11:36 (CET). Two Real Madrid players test positive

Real Madrid players Casemiro and Eden Hazard have tested positive for coronavirus, the merengue club reported this Saturday (11/07/2020), the day before visiting Valencia and at the gates of two weeks of national teams. “Our players Casemiro and Hazard have given positive results in the tests carried out yesterday Friday morning,” Real Madrid said in a statement. The rest of the players and members of the technical team tested negative in those tests on Friday, before being subjected to new tests in the morning of this Saturday.

“It is confirmed again that all, except for Casemiro and Hazard, have given negative results in the antigen tests carried out this morning,” added the merengue team. This positive is a hard blow for the two players, who had also been called up by their respective teams. The Brazilian had been called up by Tite for the South American qualifying matches for the Qatar-2022 World Cup against Venezuela on November 13 at the Morumbí stadium in Sao Paulo, and against Uruguay on November 17 at the Centennial. Hazard was also called up on Friday with Belgium for friendlies against Switzerland on November 11 and in the Nations League next Sunday against England and three days later against Denmark. (AFP)

11:09 (CET). Six countries reported coronavirus cases in mink, according to WHO

Six countries have so far reported cases of coronavirus in mink farms, the World Health Organization (WHO) indicated this Saturday (11/07/2020). “Until today, six countries, namely Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy and the United States have reported cases of SARS-CoV-2 in mink farms to the world organization for animal health”, indicates the entity in a statement.

It comes after Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced Wednesday the removal of more than 15 million minks from the country. According to Frederiksen, a mutated version of SARS-CoV-2 could threaten the efficacy of a future vaccine, after this virus was transmitted by those animals to 12 people. The mutation of a virus is something banal and often without consequences, according to the scientific community. But in the case of this strain, called “Cluster 5”, according to the first studies, it implies a lower efficacy of human antibodies, which threatens the efficacy of a vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. Democrat Joe Biden, who is looming as the winner in the White House race, promised on Friday that he will waste no time addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, which registered a spike in infections for the third consecutive day in the United States most affected in the world. “I want everyone, everyone, to know that from day one we are going to implement our plan to control this virus,” Biden said in an evening speech from his fiefdom in Wilmington, Delaware, along with his running mate, Kamala.
