Covid 19 took Zelen Blancas, the elementary teacher of a public school in the city of El Paso, Texas (United States) who was recognized three years ago for a viral video in which she taught her students to be kind and loving.
The video shows a system invneted by the teacher for her students to say goodbye to each other.

A little boy stands in a corner and four buttons are painted on the wall that correspond to options to say goodbye to him at the end of class: hug, handshake, high fives or punch to fist.
The students go by in a line, touch the button, and say goodbye to the child with the option they chose. Almost everyone embraces him while the teacher tenderly films the effectiveness of his system.

The video was recorded by the teacher in 2018 and quickly went viral, for many were fond of seeing how the first graders hugged each other naturally and lovingly.
CNN interviewed the director of the Dr. Sue A. Shook School, Cristina Sánchez-Chavira, who said that in the video (which at the time had some 22 million views) there was “nothing special and nothing new”, because “that was his class every day. (…) The culture in his classroom was very loving. She taught the children to be kind to each other and to really see themselves as family. “
Blancas spoke Spanish and English and in her class there were many children who had just arrived in the United States, so, according to Sánchez-Chavira, the teacher taught them English and was concerned that they would feel at home.

His departure
The teacher of Latino origin was 35 years old and was always healthy. However, on October 20, he was tested for coronavirus and it came back positive.
Just days later she was hospitalized. A month later, she seemed to be making a good recovery, however, on November 22, she was intubated because her oxygen levels dropped.
The success he had in his classroom, with his students, with their families, was due to his passion for making a difference and taking it beyond academics for students.
His situation worsened little by little until he died on January 1, leaving his parents behind, his brother, Mario, who assured that following in his footsteps he will also become a teacher.

Her niece, her two puppies and her students will also miss her, who loved her and remembered her for her constant effort to spread a message of love.
