The controversy began on January 20 when a photograph was revealed in which the executive director of Fenalco Antioquia, Carlos Andrés Pineda, It is seen signing before the Registrar his participation as an observer in the recall process against the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero.

Subsequently, six important companies such as Dislicores, Cueros Vélez, Bossi, among others, announced their retirement from the National Federation of Merchants (Fenalco) considering that there is politicization from the management and lack of representation of the interests of the sector.

“On Friday of last week there was an improvisation and they put an improvised curfew at 10 in the morning and a total closure and we do not see that Fenalco spoke and did absolutely nothing. We do find that, on Monday, Fenalco politically comes out to support the mayor of Medellín, that is not the position of Fenalco and less of a director ”, stated Juan Martín González, president of Dislicores.

Faced with the controversy, the director of Fenalco Antioquia regretted the inconvenience caused and offered his apologies.

“We reiterate this procedural error and it leads us to determine that we will not participate in that public hearing due to this political context and we will work from other scenarios of contrition, of public policy to defend the interests of all merchants,” said Carlos Andrés Pineda, director of Fenalco Antioquia.

From the companies that announced their retirement from the federation, they pointed out that they support the measures adopted to preserve health and life, as long as they are planned and communicated in time.
