“The city puts its experience in conducting events and its sports infrastructure at the service. With a letter addressed to Alejandro Domínguez, President of Conmebol and signed by Diana Toro Zuleta, director of INDER Medellín, the city made its intention to receive one of the finals of the continental tournaments in 2023 official, ”the entity indicated.
“We want to tell you that Medellín has applied to host the final of the Copa Libertadores or Suramericana in 2023, in order for our city to continue being the capital of sport, to continue bringing the best sporting events nationally and internationally” , said the director of the Inder Medellín Diana Toro.
In addition, “as director of the Institute of Sports and Recreation of Medellín (INDER) I present my support for the nomination of our city as the sole venue for the finals of the Conmebol Libertadores and / or Copa Sudamericana, ensuring all the necessary steps for this project be viable ”, highlighted Toro in the letter sent to the entity that governs soccer in South America.
The Atanasio Girardot stadium has hosted the second leg finals for the Copa Libertadores 1995 and 2016, in addition to the first leg final of the South American Cup in 2002 and 2014, it hosted the U20 Soccer World Cup, the Copa América 2001 and soon for the Copa América 2021, in addition to the 2010 South American Games.
