Argemiro Cortés, leader of the Ministry of Economic Development, reported that the recording of the concerts scheduled by that office to encourage the creative economy union in Cali will no longer be done in public spaces, as instructed by the Mayor’s Office and the Government of Valle .

The determination was made in conjunction with the Ministry of Security and Justice after the controversy generated in networks by the DJ event held in Cristo Rey on Saturday night, which was suspended around 8:00 pm

“From this moment on, we will not be able to make the recordings in public spaces, by instruction of the local and regional government. They will be carried out privately,” the official said.

Both the end of the suspended concert, as well as the performance of the four more that have been scheduled will be anticipated in other scenarios.

He explained that the recording of this Saturday, despite the fact that it aroused much criticism, is “within the reactivation strategies of all sectors in Cali, in which the Ministry of Economic Development has been working for a month.”

“It has been nine months since DJs, orchestras and musical groups have no income, so it was very important that at the end of the year they had the possibility of monetizing their concerts,” he said.

The five concerts will be broadcast through digital platforms, with prior payment so that the artists who participate in them can obtain resources.

Cortés emphasized that for the recording of this Saturday, the office had “all the authorizations from different entities of the Mayor’s Office. More than a concert as such, it was an event for the recording.”

He explained that “the entrance to the public was restricted precisely to avoid crowds and therefore, some people who wanted to visit this site could not enter. We presented excuses to them and we remember that our objective is to strengthen the entire productive industry of Cali.”

Just last Friday, the regional authorities announced the prohibition of face-to-face events during the week of the Fair, such as those of Carpa la 50, year-end business parties and the change from yellow alert to orange alert, to avoid accelerated growth of covid-19 cases in Cali and El Valle.

The Ministry of Health warns of an increase in infections in the region, but also an increase in the occupation of ICU beds and deaths.
