Through her Twitter account, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, explained in a very brief way the reason for the increase in coronavirus cases. According to the president, the increase in cases is directly related to the disturbances that occurred due to the death of Javier Ordóñez at the hands of two police officers and the recent marches that occurred in the capital. “The mathematics of the covid is unforgiving. Exactly 14 days after the riots on September 9, 10 and 11, on September 23, 24 and 25, we had an increase in cases. Exactly 14 days after the marches on September 21 and 22, on October 5 and 6, we have an increase again, ”López wrote.

He also stressed that it is 14 days of incubation for covid-19 and that “after 14 days of large crowds for any reason – day without VAT, disturbance or march – cases always increase and he recalled that the pandemic is still in force and that “not taking care of ourselves risks the social and economic reactivation of all”.
On the other hand, the Secretary of Health of Bogotá, Alejandro Gómez, had already warned that “It is impossible to have five or six million people on the street and not have a regrowth”, and said that in that case, re-entry into lockdown would be considered.
It should be noted that the National Institute of Health reported in the last 24 hours more than 7 thousand new cases of coronavirus in the country, Bogotá being the city with the highest report of infections; however, according to what the mayor said, the capital remained below two thousand daily reports, “which indicates the control of the speed of contagion.”
