Cali will be part of phase 3 of the study to find a vaccine against covid-19, confirmed Miyerlandi Torres, Secretary of Health, this Thursday.

At least 300 volunteers over the age of 18 will be selected to participate in this stage of the study, the last on the way to demonstrate the effectiveness of the antidote.

In phase 3, Torres explained, “the aim is to study the effectiveness of the vaccine at the population level.”

That is, the possible vaccine is tested directly in humans.

The official celebrated the participation that the capital of Valle del Cauca will have in the study and stated that, if effective, this population group will have been “immunized” against covid-19.

On the other hand, he pointed out that the opportunity came after the Center for Pediatric Infectology Studies participated internationally to implement phase 3 in Cali.

Although he did not specify which laboratories the covid-19 vaccine leaflets that will be tested in the city belong to, he said they are “mainly commercial” companies.

AstraZeneca (together with the University of Oxford), Moderna and Pfizer, are some of the laboratories that are currently advancing phase 3 of the study to find an effective vaccine for the coronavirus, a disease that already leaves more than one million deaths in the world. according to health authorities.
