Bucaramanga will not have a Halloween celebration

In recent days, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection made public its concern about the high risk of Coronavirus contagion that could occur on October 31, during ‘Halloween’.

Faced with this panorama, the Bucaramanga authorities, together with union and community leaders, decided that celebrations will not be held in the ‘Ciudad Bonita’ on this day.

“We have been working with the Epidemiological Committee, the Ministry of Health, Trade Unions, Community Leaders and Shopping Centers reviewing the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and we have decided to suspend the Halloween celebration in Bucaramanga, we intend to continue protecting the lives of people and especially of older adults, “said Juan Carlos Cárdenas, mayor of the city.

Recently, a ‘push and pull’ was unleashed by the proposal of the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police to enact Dry Law and tighten the curfew next Saturday.

According to the health and police authorities, which include epidemiologists, the Commander of the Metropolitan Police and the Covid Manager himself, it was concluded that the strategy to prevent Halloween from becoming a chain of contagion is to intensify the touch curfew and enact the Dry Law.

Despite this, Cárdenas emphasized that additional restrictive measures to those already established will not be implemented, that is, the curfew in the city will continue to apply from 11:00 at night and there will be no Prohibition.

“We want to avoid crowds or multiple contacts of children receiving sweets in the streets. The recommendation is not to go out on the streets, avoid being in shopping centers and make tours of neighboring houses,” said the president.

Fernando Ruiz himself, head of the Ministry of Health, indicated that there should not be any type of celebration.

He also warned parents that “taking children out to the streets to ask for candy has a negative effect in the sense that the so-called supercontagators are generated; that is, people who go from one place to another, possibly asymptomatic ”.

“Although the epidemic curve is going down, it is a consistent decrease, but it is still very fragile, so we are not at the moment to play with fire. The eventualities of Halloween and other parties can generate serious problems for us, ”added Ruiz Gómez.

And the call is not only for the children’s party, but also for the meetings that the adults organize on October 31. The issue is neuralgic, since that date will fall on a Saturday and just on the eve of the holiday Monday of November 2.

“Despite the fact that active cases due to COVID-19 have been reduced and ICU availability is over 30%, we must continue to take care of ourselves and reactivate ourselves responsibly,” concluded Juan Carlos Cárdenas.
