Amazonas will be in mandatory isolation until May 30 due to an increase in cases of Covid-19

The Interior Ministry announced that, due to the exponential increase in contagion in the Amazon, it made the decision to decree total and mandatory isolation of that department. The measure will be in force until May 30.

In this way, only activities necessary for health and the provision of food and essential services will be allowed. It will also be possible to carry out bank procedures, buy food and all those mobilizations related to the prevention of Covid-19.

“The Ministry of the Interior, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, will support the Governor and the Mayor in the process of monitoring the closure of the corresponding activities and the issuance and implementation of the corresponding regulations, in order to guarantee that these measures , exclusive to the department of Amazonas, safeguard the life and health of the citizens of this territory, ”said the Ministry of the Interior.

The decision was made through External Circular 054 of 2020, which orders the local authorities of the Amazon to close activities, starting on May 15 at 0:00. To carry out said isolation, 21,000 million pesos were assigned, which will be drawn between May and June.

A few days ago, the President of the Republic, Iván Duque, made the decision to militarize the borders of that department, which already has 924 infected and 29 deaths, with the aim of preventing imported cases of floating populations from continuing to arrive.

Special containment measures were also taken for the situation in the Leticia Prison, where there is a large number of those infected and the capacity for care with the hotel infrastructure in the area is being expanded, to allow health authorities to have contingency units.

Likewise, medical supplies will be provided for the health personnel of that department. 55,000 face masks will be sent to the Amazon and its use will be regulated for the entire population.
