The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruíz Gómez, announced in the Prevention and Action program, which is led daily by President Iván Duque, the 9 indicators that will be analyzed to define the easing or tightening of quarantine.

Depending on how these variables move, decisions will be made ranging from re-confining people in general, or allowing the exit in a regulated process. These variables are:

1. Effective reproductive number Ro. This refers to the number of infections left by a person infected with coronavirus and allows us to calculate the speed at which the virus spreads and how many patients there may be in the following weeks. It is calculated from the number of daily cases and the length of the infection period. Today it is known that due to the effects of quarantine, this Ro is approximately 1 (an infected person infects 1 person). Elevations above this range can skyrocket the number of cases and deaths exponentially.

2. Morbidity. It is the reference of the number of daily cases and the accumulated total. The disproportionate increase from one day to the next requires strengthening the quarantine.

3. Lethality. It is the percentage of deceased people, with respect to the total number of cases. Today this figure is 4.5 percent.

4. General mortality. It is the total number of deaths caused by all causes. An increase or a decrease, orients where the measures should be oriented.

5. Days of duplication. Refers to the number of days it takes for the number of coronavirus cases to double. A doubling rate of less than 4 days is known to be a warning sign.

6. Positivity. This determines the percentage of positive tests, with respect to the total number processed.

7. UCI occupation. It measures the proportion of intensive care beds occupied by patients of any pathology, with respect to the total number of beds in these areas. This indicator is available in Bogotá, with a cap of 40 percent. Above, the measures must be tightened.

8. Mobility. It is the percentage of capacity used in mass transportation systems in the main cities of the country. Alarms go on, when 35 percent is exceeded.

9. Physical transactions. It is the percentage of face-to-face actions that are carried out in the financial system, ATMs and in commercial establishments. This indicator determines the way people are moving in the community.

Gómez said that these indicators will be evaluated weekly by a committee made up of 10 experts, who, after analyzing it, will determine the actions required, in a context of greater evidence within the course of the pandemic.
