A 30-year-old merchant was rescued in the last hours by units of the Gaula of the Cali Metropolitan Police in conjunction with the Prosecutor’s Office. The man had been kidnapped in the city center when he was reportedly conducting business transactions.

The investigative work made it possible to find the victim’s whereabouts, who was being held in a house in the La Flora neighborhood, in the north of the capital of Valle.

The merchant was found defenseless and with signs of torture, authorities reported. In the operation, a person was captured, who was in charge of the victim’s care, and a firearm and two cell phones were seized.

The rescued man was at the disposal of medical personnel so that his state of health can be assessed, while the detainee will be brought before a judge to answer for the crime of extortionate kidnapping.

The facts

The kidnapping took place in recent days in the center of the city, where the victim was approached by armed men and then transferred to two different places in the capital of Valle del Cauca.

The man was “subjected to physical injuries and psychological torture as a method of pressure to obtain the sum of 100 million pesos in exchange for his release,” reported from the Cali Metropolitan Police.

They added that the alert was generated due to the abduction from Medellín, where the victim had traveled, and later the investigation was initiated that made it possible to find the place where the kidnapped person was.

Positive balance

The commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, General Manuel Vásquez, stressed that the kidnapping cases that occurred in the city during 2020 have been resolved.

“So far this year, the people who have been kidnapped in this city have been rescued safe and sound, and their perpetrators have been captured and prosecuted,” said General Vásquez.

He added, “the invitation to confront and contain this phenomenon is that they accept the call of our Gaula of the National Police, ‘I do not pay, I denounce'”.
