Outdoor exercise allowed, but mayors have the last word

Citizens will be able to carry out physical activities after April 27, but individually and with full respect for the protocols issued by the Ministries of Sport and Health.

The idea is that people can exercise between 5 and 8 a. m. This was reiterated by the Minister of Sport, Ernesto Lucena Barrero, who assured that the authorization for the exercise will have certain limits. “This is an exception that we want to give to benefit the mental and physical health of Colombians, especially those families who have lived the confinement for the mandatory quarantine in the face of the COVID-19 emergency and which is not easy to carry, because it has been suffered from anguish and depression, “said the head of the portfolio.

Likewise, he added: “What we have proposed is that from 5 to 8 a. m. be the schedule for moderate exercise obviously in agreement with the mayors. That the person can run, walk, ride skates or skateboards as long as it is not a contact action ”.

Although the approval has been given so that young people under 18 can go out to exercise, they must be with the parents as long as they comply with the peak and ID. “The young people will be able to do an exercise in 40 minutes and the big ones in an hour and a quarter. Why do I make this observation? Because we don’t want people to do exercises every 3 hours on the streets, it is the given time limit for there is no congestion. ”

However, adults over 70 will remain in confinement, and outdoor gyms and playgrounds are not authorized to be used: “Outdoor gyms and playgrounds will not be enabled because they are sources of infection. Only the pedestrian paths will be destined for exercise ”.

Regarding the question about the possibility of leaving high-performance athletes, Lucena Barrero stressed that they can do it, however, she reiterated that she cannot depart more than a kilometer from her place of residence. “It is one reason why athletes will have to adjust their practices to that distance.”

Pools and squash fields will continue to be closed in condominiums or closed complexes, and for now the possibility that tennis courts will be reused is not contemplated, “it would be a second step, depending on how the measure works.”

From Mindeporte it was also argued that he will propose to the mayors and governments to coordinate so that it is the National Police that controls physical activity.
Lucena Barrero pointed out when asserting that it depends on citizen responsibility for the proposal to be successful.
